John Edward JARRED was born in 1921 (Swaffham Q3-1921 4B:544), son of Jeremiah and Lily JARRED (nee MAYES)

CWGC have his parents at South Runcton.


The 5th Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment arrived in Singapore on the USS 'Mount Vernon' on the 13th January 1942. They fought until the end in the Braddell Road area of Singapore until ordered to cease fire at 1600 hours on 15th February 1942. They were taken into captivity by the Japanese Army, initially held in Changi Jail, before many were put to work on the Burma-Siam Railway.
